One never knows who’ll be spotted at Giovanni’s!
Barbara and Frank Sinatra together with Martha and William Clay Ford hosted a private dinner party in the Speak Easy Room. It was a top secret affair, and after dinner Mr. Sinatra told Frances: “This is great Italian food!
Danny DeVito and Jack Nicholson called on Giovanni’s to cater dinner while they were in town shooting the movie, Hoffa. Pat Benatar enjoyed dinner at the restaurant and later invited Frances to join her backstage at Pine Knob. Celine Dion sat by the sewing machine and said nothing. Frances has a wonderful story to tell about what Frances’ mother had to say when Celine and her entourage came in!
When the cast of American Idol were in town, Ryan Seacrest, Paula Abdul, Simon Cowell and Randy Jackson came in for dinner. Frances called Simon “Solomon”, he corrected her and she gave him a taste of his own medicine saying: “Simon, Solomon what’s the difference?”
George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Grant Heslov, Paul Giamatti made themselves at home, eating, laughing and horsing around with Frances, Randy and all the staff. They were in town during production for Ides of March. After his visit Giamatti commented on his stay in Detroit: “I went to a GREAT Italian place called Giovanni’s. Amazing pasta…fantastic woman who owned the place…”

The Main Dining Room Seats 65
